There's a new threat coming, a new power unlike anything that you've ever seen before, and you're gonna need my help to stop it. [Scene from 7X10: Witchness Protection] [INT. KYLE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - DAY] (Kyle opens the case with the vial inside.) PAIGE: Okay, what the hell is that? KYLE BRODY: It's why the avatars killed my parents. It's a vanquishing potion. It kills them. [Scene from 7X09: There's Something About Leo] [EXT. ROOFTOP - NIGHT] (After their romantic rooftop dinner, Kyle leans forward and they kiss.) TRIQUETRA FLASH TO: [Scene from 7X07: Someone to Witch Over Me] [INT. MANOR - ATTIC - NIGHT] (Leo is in his second vision quest.) ALPHA: (v.o.) Utopia - [INT. MAUSOLEUM - DARKNESS - LEO'S SECOND VISION] (Alpha and Leo talk.) ALPHA: ... that is what we represent, Leo. But we'll need your help to implement it. [Scene from 7X10: Witchness Protection] [INT. MANOR - CONSERVATORY - DAY] (Leo talks with Piper and Phoebe.) LEO: I know the Avatars are good ... because I'm an Avatar. PIPER: What? [Scene from 7X09: There's Something About Leo] [INT. KYLE'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - DAY] (Paige tells Kyle about Leo.) PAIGE: Leo's an Avatar. He told us this morning. TRIQUETRA FLASH TO: [Scene from 7X10: Witchness Protection] [INT. MANOR - DINING ROOM - DAY] (Phoebe is in the midst of her vision.) FLASH TO: [EXT. SCHOOLYARD - DAY - PHOEBE'S VISION] (A long-haired, older-looking Phoebe stands in front of the school yard waiting for the children to come outside.) (Young Wyatt runs to her followed by Young Chris and a little girl.) (VISION) WYATT: Hi, Aunt Phoebe. (Cut to: Phoebe kneels in front of the little girl.) (VISION) PHOEBE: What did I tell you about the demons? They don't exist anymore. Not since the Avatars. (End of Vision. Resume back to Phoebe.) (Phoebe smiles.) TRIQUETRA FLASH TO: [Scene from 7X10: Witchness Protection] [INT. MANOR - ATTIC - DAY] (Phoebe turns and looks at Leo.) PHOEBE: I think I want to meet them. (Piper stands next to Leo.) PIPER: Call them. (Leo closes his eyes and takes a breath.) (The Avatars - Alpha, Beta and Gamma - appear in the attic.) FADE OUT. END OF PREVIOUSLY ON FADE IN. [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR (STOCK) - DAY] [INT. MANOR - KITCHEN -- DAY] (Leo stands in front of the stove and takes the thick omelet out from the frying pan. He puts it in the middle of the plate. Piper stands next to him cutting various fruits. They're in the middle of a conversation.) LEO: I don't know what more proof you need. You told me yourself it sounds great. (He puts the plate aside.) PIPER: It does. LEO: So, what's the problem? PIPER: Burning toast. LEO: What? PIPER: The toast, it's burning. (Just then, the toaster oven pops. Leo turns and notices the toast.) LEO: Oh. (He goes to get the burning toast. Piper continues to cut the fruit.) PIPER: Now, see. There's a question. Your Avatar friends are promising this big, bright future. Um, will there be burning toast? (Leo puts the toast aside, turns and looks at Piper.) LEO: Piper, be serious. PIPER: I am. (Piper puts the knife aside.) PIPER: You know, they say they're gonna rid the world of evil, bring about a better way. What else are they gonna get rid of? LEO: Nothing else. We had this conversation. PIPER: Yeah, I know, but -- LEO: (interrupts) You talked to the other Avatars. They answered all your questions. PIPER: Still, I -- LEO: (quietly) What more do you need to know? PIPER: Well, if you'd let me finish a damn sentence, I'd tell ya. Look, the more I think about the whole thing, the more it worries me. (Leo takes a breath to answer her, but Piper stops him.) LEO: Ah! PIPER: Save the pitch. I've heard it, and I'm not saying it doesn't sound great, because, obviously, it does, especially after everything we've been through, but -- LEO: But? PIPER: But it's a huge decision. I mean, it's one thing to save the world from evil every week. It's another thing entirely to change the world just because we can. I mean, isn't that a little cocky? LEO: No. In this case, it's a leap of faith, one that I'm willing to fight for because I have faith in the Avatars. PIPER: Yeah, but not everyone else has reached your level of faith yet. (Off screen, we hear the front door squeak open.) (Leo looks up in that direction.) LEO: Was that the front door? (Piper looks over her shoulder waiting for more sounds. It's awfully quiet.) PIPER: Phoebe? Paige? (Too quiet.) [INT. MANOR - FOYER / MAIN HALL - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (The front door is open wide.) (Piper and Leo head for the front door.) PIPER: That's odd. Did you leave that open? LEO: No, I orbed in. (Leo and Piper walk out of screen heading for the front door.) (Kyle Brody steps out from the sitting room into the Main Hall behind Leo.) KYLE BRODY: You son of a bitch! [SLOW MOTION] (Kyle throws the potions bottle at Leo.) (The potions bottle slowly travels through the air toward Leo. Leo turns around.) (The potions bottle stops mid air. Time stops.) (Behind Leo, Piper has just started to turn around.) LEO: That was close. ALPHA: (o.s.) Too close. (Both Alpha and Beta are there.) ALPHA: That's the second time he's tried to kill you, Leo. We need to do something about this. LEO: All right. Well, I'm not gonna do anything until you unfreeze Piper. I can't keep lying to her. (Alpha nods. Piper unfreezes and shouts to Leo, her hands up and out ready to attack.) PIPER: (shouts) Watch - out! (She stops when she sees the Avatars.) PIPER: What are they doing here? BETA: Saving his life. ALPHA: This vile contains and ancient potion that kills avatars, Piper. Which means that someone must have told Agent Brody that Leo is one of us now. LEO: Paige. PIPER: All right. What do you want from me? I'll kill her later. ALPHA: Make no mistake, Piper. This is a serious matter, one that demands our immediate attention. BETA: If even one of us were to die, it could weaken the collective to the point where we might not be able to implement the change. PIPER: You know, well, maybe you guys should have thought of that before you killed Brody's parents. LEO: Piper. PIPER: What? That's why he views them as a threat. That's what he thinks happened. ALPHA: Do you ... view us as a threat, Piper? PIPER: You know, actually, I'm still working on that one. Thanks. BETA: We didn't kill his parents, Piper. That's not what we're about. ALPHA: She'll discover what we're about in her own time, as Phoebe already has. But we are running out of time. Agent Brody is not the only problem that we face. Even as we speak, the demon Zankou is mobilizing the underworld to try and stop us as well. (Alpha reaches out and takes the potions bottle.) ALPHA: If you truly desire a life beyond good and evil, Piper, we're going to need your help. Which means ... you'll need to decide quickly. (The Avatars leave.) (Leo turns to look at Piper.) (Time resumes.) (Kyle Brody moves.) KYLE BRODY: What happened? Huh? What did you do? PIPER: Kyle, wait. Listen to me. KYLE BRODY: No, you don't understand! That was the last potion. You have no idea what you just did. (Upset, Kyle storms out of the house.) PIPER: Okay, so you see why I'm having a little problem with the faith thing, right? (shouts) Paige! (Paige orbs in, a bag of groceries in her arms.) PAIGE: What? What's going on? PIPER: Oh, you know, nothing. Your boyfriend tried to kill my husband. (Surprised, Paige looks at Leo. He nods.) FADE TO END OF TEASER ROLL TITLE CREDITS (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. VARIOUS SAN FRANCISCO SCENES (STOCK) - DAY] [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR (STOCK) - DAY] [INT. MANOR - MAIN HALL -- DAY] (Paige carries the bag of groceries into the dining room where she puts it down on the table.) PAIGE: I don't know what happened. I told Kyle you were an Avatar at breakfast. He seemed okay with it. PIPER: Yeah, well, you should've warned us you were gonna tell him. PAIGE: I would have, if I would've known what he was gonna do, not that I can blame him. LEO: Excuse me? PAIGE: I mean, not the whole killing you thing, obviously, but ... His parents were killed by the Avatars. LEO: The Avatars weren't responsible for that. PAIGE: How do you know? Were you there, Leo? LEO: No, I wasn't, but now that I'm an Avatar, I can tell you they wouldn't do that because it goes against everything they believe in. PAIGE: Well, Kyle thinks otherwise, and he happened to be there. PIPER: Paige, in all fairness, he was only five years old. I mean, who knows what really happened? PAIGE: Why don't you try to convince him of that? (Phoebe enters the dining room.) PHOEBE: Talking about Kyle, I assume? (sighs) I just called him looking for you. He gave me an earful. (She stops next to Paige and looks at Leo.) You okay? LEO: Yeah. PIPER: It's a good thing Kyle is out of potions. PHOEBE: Still doesn't solve his problem. And until somebody does, I would assume that you're not gonna go along with the Avatars, right? PAIGE: What do you have up your sleeve? PHOEBE: Well, I was just thinking, remember how Leo sent you back to find out what really happened to your parents? PAIGE: Yeah. PHOEBE: Well, maybe we could do the same thing for Kyle and help him move on. PAIGE: Okay, but what if Kyle sees that they really did kill his parents? PHOEBE: Well, if that's the case, then we'll kill the Avatars and help him move on that way. The sooner we help Kyle find out the truth, the sooner we can all move on. PIPER: Move on to what? PHOEBE: The future the Avatars promised us, the one I saw in my vision. PIPER: Okay, but, Phoebe, we all didn't see that. PHOEBE: Yes, but you could ... if you and I swap powers. PIPER: What?! PHOEBE: It would just be for a little while, just long enough for you to see the vision for yourself. I promise you, it's beautiful. PIPER: (hesitant) Okay, look, if the Avatars are exonerated and I see what Phoebe saw, then we'll talk about it. (Phoebe turns and looks at Paige. Paige rolls her eyes and reluctantly gives in.) PAIGE: Fine. I'll talk, too. (Phoebe turns and looks at Piper. Piper nods.) CUT TO: [INT. UNDERWORLD -- ZANKOU'S LAIR] (In the center of what appears to be a broken circular-shaped wall is a fire-lit altar. Zankou stands just outside the altar with his arms outstretched, palms up. His eyes are closed in meditation. He takes a deep breath.) (Camera zooms in quickly and stops near Zankou. We see a group of demons gathered just behind him talking amongst themselves. Laygan breaks away from the group and heads over to Zankou.) LAYGAN: Zankou ... Hi. Sorry to disturb you. (Zankou doesn't turn around.) ZANKOU: What is it? LAYGAN: Uh, well, we were just wondering -- and I mean all of us, not just myself -- when things were gonna move along. You know, seeing as though the Avatars are so close to wiping us off the face of the earth and all. ZANKOU: The Avatars are not the problem. LAYGAN: "Not the problem"? Well, we unleashed you to save us from them, and now they're not the proble -- I'm a little confused. ZANKOU: Would you like me to elaborate? LAYGAN: Yes, please. (Zankou turns around swiftly and smacks Laygan across the side of his head. Laygan flies backward across the cave and smashes into the group of demons who break his fall. They all fall to the ground.) ZANKOU: We can't stop the Avatars, but we might be able to stop The Charmed Ones before they join forces with them. If we can do that, then the Avatars won't have the power they need in order to remake the world and eliminate us. LAYGAN: Destroying The Charmed Ones ... (Laygan gets to his feet.) You know, it always sounds easy. (Again, Laygan steps closer to Zankou.) Many have tried. No one's succeeded. ZANKOU: There's a first time for everything. Besides, I've never had the opportunity to go up against them before ... (Zankou turns his back on Laygan and faces the fire.) ZANKOU: ... but I sense the chance is near. (Zankou takes a deep breath and closes his eyes ... concentrating.) CUT TO: [EXT. BRODY'S APARTMENT BUILDING (STOCK) - DAY] PAIGE: (v.o.) (angry) Are you trying to get yourself killed? [INT. BRODY'S APARTMENT -- DAY] PAIGE: 'Cause, you know, that's what easily could've happened. (Kyle picks a gray computer component off the desk. He walks past Paige and puts the computer component in his open bag.) KYLE BRODY: Yeah. It was a chance I had to take. You kill one Avatar, it weakens them all. They're connected. PAIGE: Kyle, you tried to kill Leo. KYLE BRODY: I don't care. PAIGE: I do, and if you actually cared about me, maybe you would, too. KYLE BRODY: No, no, see, don't lay that on me. PAIGE: Don't lay what on you? He's my brother-in-law. He matters to me! KYLE BRODY: Yeah, well, my parents mattered to me, too! PAIGE: Okay, even if the Avatars did kill them, Leo wasn't there. How can you even hold him responsible? KYLE BRODY: It was the only way I could get to them. PAIGE: So you would kill somebody who's innocent to exact revenge on whoever killed your parents. Gee, that makes you a whole lot better than those killers. (He closes the briefcase and turns around to look at Paige.) KYLE BRODY: Look, I know who killed my parents. PAIGE: Do you? Are you sure? KYLE BRODY: Yeah, I'm sure. PAIGE: Then you won't mind proving it, right? KYLE BRODY: What are you talking about? PAIGE: I'm talking about getting you past this, finding out who really did this. Are you interested? KYLE BRODY: Yeah. PAIGE: Good. Then you won't mind going on a little trip with me. CUT TO: [INT MANOR - ATTIC -- DAY] (Phoebe is flipping through the Book of Shadows.) PHOEBE: I know the power-switching spell is in here somewhere. We've used it before. PIPER: Yeah, and if I remember correctly, didn't it bite us in the ass? (Phoebe slams her fists down on the Book and glares at Piper.) I'm just sayin'. (Leo orbs into the attic.) LEO: All right, as long as Kyle's willing, the Avatars said they would send him back to the past. PHOEBE: They've got the easy part. They should try dealing with a stubborn sister in the present. PIPER: So, I'm having second thoughts. Sue me. PHOEBE: I'm tellin' ya, it's well worth the risk for you to see what I saw. Imagine a future with no demons, a future where we're all free, where our kids get to grow up happy and have normal lives. I mean, it's what we've always dreamed of. Piper, it's what you've always dreamed of. PIPER: And you got all of that from one vision? PHOEBE: Actually, yeah, I did. (Leo smiles at Phoebe.) PIPER: What are you smiling at? LEO: Nothing. (Paige and Kyle walk into the attic.) PAIGE: Okay! We're ready. PHOEBE: Good. I'm glad. And you will be, too. KYLE BRODY: We'll see. (Leo steps forward.) LEO: All right, well, let me explain how this is gonna work. KYLE BRODY: Hold it. He's doin' this? PIPER: Uh, yeah. Is there a problem? KYLE BRODY: Yeah. How do I know he and the other Avatars aren't gonna change the past, make it look like they want it to? LEO: We can't change your past, nor would we want to. Besides, you'll know if it's been messed with, it's your past. KYLE BRODY: And I get the word of an Avatar on this? No way. PAIGE: Kyle ... please, we have to do this. It's the only way we're ever gonna find out the truth, right? KYLE BRODY: All right. What do I do? LEO: Close your eyes. (Kyle closes his eyes.) LEO: Concentrate on the day. See it. (Paige waves to Leo.) PAIGE: How do we get back? LEO: You'll get back when he finds the truth. PAIGE: (rolls her eyes) Of course. (Leo raises his hands and motions past Kyle and Paige. They both turn around in time to see a bright, swirling vortex open in front of them.) (Kyle holds on to Paige's hand. Together, they're pulled into the bright, swirling vortex.) (The Paige and Kyle vanish when the vortex closes.) PIPER: Now what? PHOEBE: Now we work on you. (Phoebe goes back to flipping through the Book of Shadows.) CUT TO: [EXT. ALLEYWAY NEAR SUBWAY- DAY - PAST (1981)] (Open on a Subway sign. We hear the vortex open and see a bright, swirling light down in the subway. The light vanishes when the vortex closes. Paige and Kyle make their way up the subway stairs to the sidewalk.) PAIGE: Oh ... you okay? KYLE BRODY: (stretches his back) Yeah. Still not used to this time travel stuff. (Paige rubs his back as they step out of the subway and onto the busy snow- covered sidewalk. Kyle looks around and his eyes grow wide.) KYLE BRODY: Oh, my god. (Down the street, buildings have their Christmas decorations out. Kyle looks around the area.) KYLE BRODY: Wait a minute. Something's not right. PAIGE: What? What's not right? (Kyle rushes out, running quickly across the street. A car traveling brakes to avoid hitting him. Kyle hits the car's hood.) KYLE BRODY: Come on! VOICE (DRIVER): (o.s.) Hey, buddy! Watch it, huh! (Kyle continues across the street. Paige follows him.) PAIGE: Where are you going? (Kyle stops in front of the stack of newspapers for the NEW YORK MONITOR. The headline reads: "President Reagan Announces Sanctions Against USSR".) (Kyle picks up the newspaper off the vendor's rack.) KYLE BRODY: December 28, 1981. PAIGE: Isn't that the date? KYLE BRODY: Yeah, but this isn't where it happened. This isn't where they died. (He looks around the street.) PAIGE: You sure? KYLE BRODY: Yeah, of course I'm sure. They died in a warehouse near JFK at 7:52 at night. (He tosses the newspaper back on the vendor's rack.) I checked the coroner's report. (He points to the building nearby.) This -- this is Columbia University. This is where they taught. PAIGE: Maybe we're starting here for some other reason. KYLE BRODY: Yeah, because the Avatars want me to miss seeing it. That's not gonna happen, Paige. We got to get to the airport. (Kyle steps out close to the edge of the sidewalk and hails a cab.) KYLE BRODY: Hey, taxi! (As the full taxi drives by, Paige notices the movie advertisement on the hood for "Raiders of the Lost Ark".) PAIGE: Cool. "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Always wanted to see that. (Kyle starts walking down the sidewalk. Paige follows him.) PAIGE: Christmas in New York -- nothing like it, right? KYLE BRODY: I think it's the first one I remember. PAIGE: What'd you get for Christmas? KYLE BRODY: Uh, a bunch of books, snow globe, Rubik's cube. PAIGE: You must have been a smart boy to handle that. KYLE BRODY: Yeah, I liked puzzles. Hey, taxi! (He tries hailing a cab again. He makes his way across the street. Paige follows him.) (Across the street, a taxi cab stops at the curb. Kyle and Paige make their way to the car.) (The back door opens and a woman with light brown hair steps out onto the sidewalk. She turns back to the seat.) RUTH BRODY: Come on. (Kyle sees the woman and stops.) (The woman turns and looks at Kyle. Suddenly she faints. Kyle reaches out and catches her before she hits the sidewalk. He kneels down holding her.) YOUNG KYLE BRODY: (o.s.) Mom? (A young boy slides out across the taxi seat and looks out the open door.) YOUNG KYLE BRODY: Mommy! KYLE BRODY: It's okay, son. She's all right. She just fainted. You want to get your jacket? (The little boy grabs his jacket.) PAIGE: Do you know who she is? KYLE BRODY: Yeah. It's my mom. (Little Kyle Brody steps out of the cab. Kyle and Paige both turn to look at the little boy putting his jacket on.) KYLE: Which makes him ... PAIGE: You. CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - ATTIC - DAY -- PRESENT] (Phoebe continues to flip through the Book of Shadows. She stops.) PHOEBE: Found it! (She turns to glance back at Piper.) PHOEBE: You ready? PIPER: Uh, what if Zankou shows up? What are we gonna do then? PHOEBE: Well, then I blow him up. I mean, we're still gonna have our powers, just in different bodies. PIPER: What if that doesn't work? What if we need Paige, too? PHOEBE: Why are you procrastinating? What are you afraid of? PIPER: Honestly? A lot of things, actually. I mean, even if this works, we're still talking about remaking the world as we know it, and, frankly, that makes me a little nervous. PHOEBE: I promise you, you will not be nervous once you see what I saw. Trust me. (They both turn and start reading the Power-Switching Spell.) PIPER & PHOEBE: (together) What's mine is yours, what's yours is mine, I offer up my gift to share. Switch our powers through the air." (Their powers, in the form of white orb lights, rise up out of them and float above their heads. Piper and Phoebe stare at them just hovering over their heads.) (Suddenly, Zankou flames into the attic.) (The power orb lights above Piper and Phoebe's head switch places. Piper and Phoebe both turn and look at Zankou. He raises his hands and powers up two energy balls, one in each palm.) (Piper and Phoebe duck for cover behind the nearest couch.) PIPER: Aah! PHOEBE: Aah! (Zankou hurls the energy balls at the power orb lights still hovering in the air. The energy balls hit the power orbs sending them out of the attic through the windows.) (Piper and Phoebe can't believe it.) PHOEBE: Uh-oh. [INT. CAR (PARKED) -- DAY - CONTINUOUS] (Ronnie is sitting in his car behind the driver's wheel eating. Behind him, we see the power orbs fly out of the Halliwell Manor's attic window and split up into two.) (One set hits Ronnie square. He lights up as he absorbs his new powers.) [EXT. DENISE'S HOUSE (#1324) - DAY - CONTINUOUS] (Denise is standing out on her front porch. The second set of power orb lights travel through the air and hit Denise square. She falls backward onto the porch as she absorbs her new powers.) (Denise slowly sits up.) [INT. MANOR - ATTIC - DAY - CONTINUOUS] (Meanwhile, back in the attic, Zankou looks around the attic.) ZANKOU: So where's the third one? PHOEBE: Uh, you know what? We're not really sure, so why don't you just come back later, okay? ZANKOU: Nah. (Zankou continues through the attic. He powers up another energy ball just as Leo orbs into the attic behind him.) (He quickly zaps Zankou with a stream of electricity.) ZANKOU: Aah! (Zankou smashes into an attic table near the girls.) (Zankou looks at the girls, then glances back at Leo.) (Zankou flames out of the attic.) LEO: What happened? Why didn't you fire back? PIPER: (miffed) Go ahead. Tell him. PHOEBE: We sort of lost our powers. (Leo looks at them without saying anything. Camera holds on Phoebe and Piper.) FADE OUT. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR (STOCK) - DAY] [INT. MANOR - STAIRS / MAIN HALL -- DAY] (Piper heads down the stairs. Phoebe and Leo follow her.) PHOEBE: Maybe we should try calling for our powers? PIPER: We already tried that. It didn't work. PHOEBE: All right. Well, maybe we should try again. LEO: Piper, where are you going? (Piper reaches the main hall and heads for the front door. Phoebe and Leo follow her.) PIPER: Well, the powers went out the window, didn't they? LEO: So you expect to find them laying around on the front lawn? PIPER: Don't get smart with me, mister. This was not my idea. PHOEBE: I said I was sorry. I was just trying to get you to see what I saw. PIPER: Yes, and now I can see that we are going to die, and I don't need your powers for that. LEO: Maybe you should try scrying for them. PIPER: Why would that work? LEO: Because they're alive. They still exist somewhere. PHOEBE: Somewhere? Somewhere, where? Like in people? LEO: Two very surprised people. PIPER: Uh, we gotta get Paige back here before Zankou attacks again. LEO: We can't. They can only return after they find out who killed Kyle's parents. PHOEBE: How did he know to attack us? I mean, right when we were about to switch powers? LEO: He must have known somehow. He must have sensed you were vulnerable. PHOEBE: Now I know why The Source locked him up. PIPER: (suddenly worried, to Leo) You need to take the kids to Magic School right away. LEO: No way? What, and leave you without powers? PIPER: You have to. There's no other option. We'll call you if we need you, but you gotta get them out of here. (Leo orbs out.) PIPER: (to Phoebe) And we need to find our powers. (Outside, we hear a loud explosion. Piper turns around and opens the front door.) (She looks outside.) [EXT. HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (The sounds are coming from the house across the street. Lights flash and more explosions sound inside the house. The woman inside screams.) [EXT. MANOR - FRONT PORCH - DAY - CONTINUOUS] (Piper stares at the house from the front porch.) PIPER: I think I just found mine. (Outside, the crashing sounds continue.) PHOEBE: I'm going to find my powers. (Phoebe turns and heads upstairs.) CUT TO: [INT. UNDERWORLD - ZANKOU'S LAIR] (Zankou stands in front of the burning fire, his eyes closed and hands held out, palms upward in front of him.) ZANKOU: One of them has found her powers already, which means the other one will as well. (From behind the wall, Laygan peers out at Zankou.) LAYGAN: Does that mean we've missed our chance? ZANKOU: Not necessarily. LAYGAN: With all due respect, Zankou, you said you knew when The Charmed Ones would be at their most vulnerable. (Laygan walks around the wall closer to Zankou. Other demons also step out from behind the other walls.) ZANKOU: They were vulnerable. I sensed it. I just didn't anticipate the Elder coming to their rescue. LAYGAN: I mean, maybe we should rethink things a little. Maybe go after the Avatars instead. ZANKOU: With their power? We wouldn't stand a chance. LAYGAN: Some of us think we would. (Zankou looks at Laygan. The demons gathered behind Laygan start murmuring in agreement.) (Laygan looks back at Zankou. Suddenly Zankou makes his move. He throws two energy balls at two demons standing behind Laygan. They both scream as they burst into flames.) ZANKOU: (to Laygan) Now they don't think that. (Zankou turns back to the fire.) LAYGAN: If you're still going after the witches, how do we get past the Elder? ZANKOU: By letting the other Elders know he's not really one of them anymore. (Zankou smiles. Laygan nods, but he really doesn't get it.) CUT TO: [EXT. STREET (STOCK) - DAY - PAST (1981)] [EXT. COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY BUILDING (STOCK) - DAY - PAST (1981)] [INT. COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY -- BRODY'S OFFICE - DAY -- PAST (1981)] (Ruth Brody sits in the chair. Kyle hands her a glass of water.) RUTH BRODY: Thank you. (Young Kyle sits at the desk.) YOUNG KYLE: Is my mom gonna be okay? KYLE BRODY: She's gonna be fine. PAIGE: Is there anyone we can call for you? A husband, maybe? JACK BRODY: (o.s.) There's no need. He's right here. (Jack Brody is standing in the doorway. He rushes over to Ruth.) JACK BRODY: Hey. (Kyle sees his dad and is taken aback.) KYLE: Dad ... (Jack Brody looks at Kyle.) ... dad, uh ... (to Young Kyle) Is that your dad? (Young Kyle looks at Kyle. Paige nudges Kyle.) PAIGE: (whispers) Careful. JACK BRODY: Honey, what's wrong? One of the T.A.s told me that you were sick? RUTH BRODY: No, I'm fine. I had a fainting spell. (She chuckles self-consciously.) JACK: A fainting spell? RUTH BRODY: I ... I was so startled. He's the spitting image of my father. PAIGE: (interrupts) Crazy coincidences, right? (Jack looks at them, then gets to his feet.) JACK BRODY: Well, you're right. Thanks a lot for helping her out. I'm Jack. Jack Brody. (Jack offers Kyle his hand. They shake. Kyle still looks a little stunned at seeing his parents again. He doesn't answer quickly enough.) PAIGE: This is Kevin, Kevin Matthews, and I am Paige, and we're late for a movie. JACK: Oh, what are you guys gonna go see? KYLE: Um ... PAIGE: "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (Young Kyle perks up.) YOUNG KYLE: Cool. Can I go with? RUTH BRODY: No, you can't go with. You're too little. (Young Kyle looks down at the magazine he's looking at, a little dejected at being left out. Kyle sits down at the table opposite him.) KYLE: Trust me though. You're gonna love it. (The phone rings. Jack goes to answer it.) JACK BRODY: Oh, uh, just give me one second. KYLE: You get this for Christmas? YOUNG KYLE: Yep. JACK BRODY: (b.g.) (to phone) Hello? RUTH BRODY: He loves reading about all the Egyptian kings and queens. (As she talks, Kyle is leafing through the magazine.) RUTH BRODY: What's your favorite story, Kyle? (Both Kyles, Young and Old, answer her.) KYLE / YOUNG KYLE: (BOTH) The Mummy's Curse. (Ruth's smile fades a little. Paige starts squirming.) YOUNG KYLE: (to Kyle) Owe me a soda. (Kyle glances over at Ruth and notices her wariness.) KYLE: I'm sure it's every kid's favorite story. My folks used to read it to me all the time. RUTH BRODY: Well, you have good parents. KYLE BRODY: Yeah. PAIGE: (interrupts) All right, then, uh ... Kevin? We really should be going. JACK: (to Ruth) We should, too. (Finished with his call, Jack hangs up the phone.) That was customs. The manifest for the Cairo shipment is missing. They're telling us that they're gonna destroy the whole shipment unless we get down there and identify it. RUTH BRODY: They're priceless artifacts. They can't just destroy them. JACK BRODY: Well, apparently they can, and they will, so sorry to have to cut this short. (Ruth stands up and sighs.) RUTH BRODY: I hope we see you again soon. KYLE BRODY: Yeah. Yeah, me, too. PAIGE: Okay, then. Bye, all. (Paige walks over to the door. Kyle glances at Young Kyle and follows Paige out.) (Camera lingers on Ruth as she watches them leave.) CUT TO: [EXT. (NEW YORK) STREET - DAY -- PAST (1981)] (Paige and Kyle walk out of the building. Paige walks down the front steps and onto the sidewalk.) PAIGE: What are you thinking? KYLE BRODY: Look, I'm sorry, all right? I just thought it would be easier than this. PAIGE: Well, you have to be careful. We can't risk changing the past. (Paige stops walking and turns to look at Kyle.) KYLE BRODY: Look, you yourself said that there's a reason why I came here first. PAIGE: That's not the reason. We came to see who killed them, not to save them. KYLE BRODY: Look, all my life, I just used to think that if I could just talk to my parents one more time, five minutes, even that would be enough. I don't know. I don't think I can just sit back and watch my parents die. (Kyle walks past Paige.) PAIGE: You don't have a choice. (Paige turns and follows Kyle.) PAIGE: Kyle, we can't change the past. (Kyle and Paige walk down the sidewalk past a bell ringer standing next to a donations pot. Camera lingers on the ringing bell.) CUT TO: [EXT. (SAN FRANCISCO) STREET - DAY -- PRESENT] (A bell rings as a trolly rolls by. On the side of the car is a large advertisement: ASK PHOEBE SHE HAS ALL THE ANSWERS THE BAY MIRROR READ HER DAILY ) (The trolly passes and the camera moves forward toward the San Francisco Arms Apartments.) [EXT. SAN FRANCISCO ARMS APARTMENTS - FRONT SIDEWALK - DAY - CONTINUOUS] (A man stands in the middle of a mess of clothes and other items strewn on the sidewalk. He looks down at his clothes and then up at the woman standing on the balcony throwing the clothes down to him.) RONNIE: Oh, no, honey! No, don't. I -- Look, baby, you got to believe me, I did not hire a private eye to follow you. (She throws the clothes off the balcony, turns and heads inside to get more.) GIRLFRIEND: Liar! (She throws more clothes off the balcony.) (From across the street, Phoebe heads toward the man on the sidewalk.) RONNIE: Look, honey, you got to believe me! (She throws more clothes off the balcony. He stops as a thought occurs to him.) Wait, I'm the liar? You're the one having the affairs! GIRLFRIEND: Well, then how did you know about them, huh? RONNIE: I told you already. I don't know how. I just ... I just saw it in my head. GIRLFRIEND: Well, now you can see your ass out of my life! RONNIE: You're the one screwing around. GIRLFRIEND: Rrr! (She throws a shirt off the balcony and it hits him in the face.) (Suddenly, he gets a premonition.) (Quick flash to: [BEDROOM] His girlfriend is in bed with someone. The man turns around and he sees who it is. End of flash. Resume to present.) RONNIE: Phil? (shouts) You slept with Phil, too? (His girlfriend doesn't answer him. She goes to get something else to throw.) RONNIE: (to himself) Oh, my god. What is happening to me? PHOEBE: I think I can explain. (Ronnie turns around. Phoebe smiles sheepishly at him.) RONNIE: Who are you? PHOEBE: It doesn't matter, but I do know you've been seeing certain things, right? Things that you can't explain? RONNIE: Oh, no, no, no. Don't tell me you're sleeping with her, too? PHOEBE: No, of course not. I'm just here to help you. RONNIE: Look, lady, no offense, but I don't think you can help me, okay? (He turns away from Phoebe and looks back up at the balcony. His girlfriend has returned carrying a large trophy in the shape of a bowling pin.) RONNIE: Oh, no, no, not the bowling trophy! (She tosses the bowling trophy over the balcony. He quickly ducks aside to avoid getting hit. The trophy hits the sidewalk and breaks. The crowd gathered around groans in sympathy.) (Ronnie rushes over and lovingly picks up his bowling trophy.) RONNIE: My trophy. My - (He gets another premonition.) (Quick flash to: [BEDROOM] His girlfriend is in bed with yet another man. End of premonition. Resume to present.) (He stops and turns to look at Phoebe who stands a short distance away from him, watching him.) RONNIE: Who the hell are you? PHOEBE: Short version, I'm a witch, and you have my power of premonition, and if you don't come with me, you're probably gonna get killed by a demon. (She nods and shrugs at him.) Got it? (Camera holds on Ronnie has he absorbs it all.) CUT TO: [EXT. GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE - TALLEST TOWER -- DAY] (Zankou is standing on the top of the tower on the Golden Gate Bridge. He raises his hand and lightly touches the shield in front of him. It zaps his finger.) (He looks over at the two Elders - Kheel and Sandra.) ZANKOU: What's the matter, don't trust me? KHEEL: You said you had some information about the Avatars? We're listening. ZANKOU: Actually, I said I have information about one of the Avatars. (Zankou takes a step and the force shield zaps again.) ZANKOU: A very special one. SANDRA: He doesn't know anything. Let's go. ZANKOU: You know him, actually. Very well, too. KHEEL: All right, who is it? ZANKOU: I believe his name is Leo. Ring any elder bells? KHEEL: He's not an Avatar. ZANKOU: Sure, he is. He just doesn't want you to know it, probably because he's planning on betraying you. But then again, I'm not one to gossip. I'm sure if you look back at it, it has to make a lot of sense, doesn't it? KHEEL: Do you have any proof? ZANKOU: I saw his powers. More to the point, I ... felt his powers. Made yours seem ... feeble. SANDRA: Why are you telling us this now? What do you hope to gain? ZANKOU: My life ... and those of my fellow demons. See, the one thing you and I have in common is the Avatar's threat. If they come to power, you'll be out, and we will be gone. On the other hand, if you can deal with your little traitor, we might yet be able to save ourselves. (Kheel and Sandra look at each other.) ZANKOU: Tick ... tock. (Zankou flames out. Camera holds on Kheel and Sandra as they again look at each other.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - ATTIC - DAY] (Denise looks absolutely stunned.) DENISE: Demons? (She takes a step back away from Piper.) What do you mean, demons? You mean they actually exist? (Piper steps forward as Denise continues to step backward. Piper tries to explain it to her.) PIPER: Yes, Denise, they do, so I need my pow -- DENISE: Stay away from me! (Freaked out, Denise holds up her hands. The blast goes past Piper and hits the table in the back of the attic. Piper flinches.) (Denise puts her hands down.) DENISE: Why does that keep happening? PIPER: It won't if you just calm down a little and let me help you. DENISE: Wait. You guys fight demons here all the time, don't you? PIPER: Pretty much. Why? DENISE: See, I always thought that you just threw a bunch of wild parties. You know, things breaking, people screaming. I had no idea. PIPER: Yeah. Well, at least now you know why we never invited you. (Phoebe walks into the attic with Ronnie.) PHOEBE: Found my -- (Denise is startled and accidentally freezes them.) DENISE: Aah! (Piper walks over to Denise.) PIPER: See, that's that other little power I was telling you about. (Piper goes behind Denise and helps her unfreezes Phoebe and Ronnie.) PIPER: Okay, so small gesture here. Small, nothing too hard. Don't want to blow up the sister, okay? (Piper guides Denise's hands as she gestures. Time resumes.) PHOEBE: -- power. Frozen? PIPER: Yeah. (Phoebe looks at Denise.) PHOEBE: Hi, I'm Phoebe. And you're ... DENISE: Really scared. PIPER: Yeah, really don't startle her. RONNIE: Uh, hey, ladies, what do you say we cut the chit-chat and just fix this, huh? (Eager to get her powers back, Phoebe heads over to the Book of Shadows.) PHOEBE: You got it, Ronnie. Let's do it. (Piper joins Phoebe.) DENISE: Wait. What exactly are you gonna do? PHOEBE: Oh, just a little spell. (Phoebe opens the Book of Shadows.) You're gonna say it, we're gonna say it, and then everything should be back to normal. (Phoebe looks for the spell.) PIPER: And then you can go home and never tell anyone ever, ever, ever about this. Okay? Sounds good, huh? (Phoebe finds the spell and motions to Ronnie and Denise.) PHOEBE: Gather round. RONNIE: Hold on. Wait, wait, wait. What if, say, you wanted to use your powers for something besides fighting demons? Like, uh, winning the lottery? PHOEBE: No, my premonitions are much bigger than that. RONNIE: What's bigger than winning the lottery? DENISE: Yeah, how about getting back at people who were really mean to you? Ever do that? PIPER: No, no. 'Cause that's under the category of personal gain, and with the risk of exposure, those are really, really bad things in the witch world. PHOEBE: Time's a-wastin'. DENISE: No, no, no. I'm talking really mean. Like, say, an ex-husband who clears out your savings account, runs off with his secretary, and leaves you mortgaged to the hilt? RONNIE: Yeah, see? You guys could get rich and get revenge on whoever you wanted. PHOEBE: No, we couldn't. DENISE: I don't believe you. RONNIE: Yeah, me, neither. (mutters to Denise) What do you say we go an get rich? DENISE: Okay, but only if we can blow up my ex-husband afterwards. RONNIE: Sure. PHOEBE: No, no, no, 'cause that would be personal gain and exposure, not to mention murder. (Ronnie and Denise both ignore Phoebe. They turn and head out of the attic.) PHOEBE: Whoa-- PIPER: Hey! You can't leave. (Both Phoebe and Piper run toward them to stop them. Denise turns around and holds up her hands. She freezes both Piper and Phoebe.) (Ronnie and Denise chuckle.) RONNIE: Oh, I think this is gonna be a lot of fun. (They both leave the attic.) (Camera holds on Phoebe and Piper ... frozen.) FADE OUT. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. AIRPORT (STOCK) - DAY -- PAST (1981)] (An airplane lands.) [INT. AIRPORT WAREHOUSE - AFTERNOON -- PAST (1981)] (Jack, Ruth and Young Kyle enter the Loading Dock Airport Warehouse.) JACK BRODY: There you go. (He motions for Young Kyle to stay on the side. He heads over to the table where he removes his scarf and jacket.) (In the back of the warehouse hidden behind the boxes and pallets are Kyle and Paige.) (A custom's officer reaches into an open box and lifts out a smaller, older case. Jack sees him and immediately rushes over toward him.) JACK BRODY: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You're gonna want to be extra careful with that one. (The custom's officer puts the case on the table.) (Ruth turns to Young Kyle who is busy playing with his Rubik's cube.) RUTH BRODY: (to Young Kyle) Honey, this is gonna take a while. Do you want to go get a drink? (Young Kyle shakes his head, no.) RUTH BRODY: No? (Jack opens the case and finds many potions vials.) CUSTOMS OFFICER: Hey, what's in these things? (He picks one up and looks at the stamp on the side of the clay vial.) JACK BRODY: Well, I honestly don't know, but I can tell you what I think is in them. (From behind the boxes, Kyle and Paige watch.) KYLE BRODY: They thought it was some sort of Egyptian healing balm. I went through the journals of all their digs. They didn't even know what they had unearthed, what it could do. They were completely innocent. PAIGE: So why did the Avatars kill them? KYLE BRODY: Because they knew what it could do. (As Jack and Ruth look at the vials, Young Kyle makes his way deeper into the warehouse.) PAIGE: Are there any other vials? KYLE BRODY: No. They all get destroyed. PAIGE: When? KYLE BRODY: You'll see. (Paige and Kyle turn around when they hear a voice behind them.) YOUNG KYLE: (o.s.) What are you guys doing here? (Young Kyle is standing in the aisle watching them.) PAIGE: Uh, actually, we're um ... KYLE BRODY: Can you keep a secret? (Young Kyle nods and walks over to them.) KYLE BRODY: You know those imaginary friends of yours, the ones that watch over you? YOUNG KYLE: How do you know about them? KYLE BRODY: How do you think we know? YOUNG KYLE: Because ... you're them? KYLE: That's right. Here. (Kyle picks up Young Kyle and sits him down on a container.) KYLE: You're heavy. (Kyle takes a step back and looks at Young Kyle.) KYLE: There. Now you got your own throne, just like King Tut. (Paige taps Kyle on his shoulder.) PAIGE: Can I talk to you for a second? (Paige and Kyle step aside.) PAIGE: Don't you realize everything you say to him can change your past? KYLE BRODY: Look, I'm not saying anything to him that he doesn't already know. Trust me. PAIGE: You can't keep him from going through this. Everything that you've gone through, your parents' death, has made you who you are today. Don't you see that? He has to go through it, otherwise you won't. (Kyle looks over at his parents still going through the items with the various customs officers.) RUTH: (o.s.) Kyle? Where are you? (Kyle turns and kneels in front of Young Kyle.) KYLE BRODY: You better go. YOUNG KYLE: Will you still be here? KYLE: Yeah. Go on. Get out of here. (Young Kyle gets down from the bin.) RUTH: (o.s.) Honey? (Young Kyle runs down the aisle and heads back to his mom.) (She looks up and sees him.) RUTH: There you are. You want to go get that soda now? YOUNG KYLE: (o.s.) Okay. RUTH: (o.s.) Okay. (Kyle and Paige resume their observing positions behind the boxes.) CUT TO: [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR (STOCK) - DAY -- PRESENT] [INT. MANOR - ATTIC - DAY -- PRESENT] (Leo orbs into the attic and finds both Phoebe and Piper still frozen in mid- stride) LEO: Piper? Phoebe? (He walks over to them and recognizes that they're definitely frozen. He waves his hand and they unfreeze.) (Phoebe and Piper head forward and stop. They turn around when they realize that both Ronnie and Denise aren't there.) PHOEBE: Where'd they go? (They see Leo.) PHOEBE: Hi. LEO: Where'd who go? PIPER: Uh-oh. PHOEBE: They froze us again. PIPER: And apparently took off with our powers. LEO: Why didn't you stop them? PHOEBE: Well, it's a little tough to do when you're frozen. LEO: Well, didn't you explain the risk to them? Demons, personal gain? PHOEBE: Yeah, the demons they were afraid of. Personal gain, not so much. (Phoebe heads over to the scrying table.) LEO: Well, you need to find them. (Piper waves away his oh-so helpful suggestions with a swish of her hand and heads for the scrying table also.) PIPER: Yeah. Thanks. (Phoebe is trying to scry for them again.) PHOEBE: Although, without our powers, I don't know how we're gonna convince them to give them back. PIPER: Well, we'll jump off that bridge when we get to it. CUE SOUND: WHITELIGHTER'S CALL (Leo looks up. Piper turns around and sees Leo with that look on his face.) PIPER: The Elders? LEO: Yeah. I don't know what they want. PIPER: Do you think it's about Zankou? (Phoebe turns around and looks at Leo and Piper. She's not really paying too much attention on where the scrying crystal is.) LEO: Could be, or the Avatars. I'll be right back. (Leo orbs out of the attic.) (The scrying crystal hits the map. She turns and looks. The crystal is on the map street index.) PHOEBE: Well, that's weird. That's never happened before. PIPER: Wait. (Piper reaches out, flips the map over and opens the map. Phoebe holds the crystal over the map and it falls on a particular spot.) PIPER: Lake Tahoe? CUT TO: [EXT. VARIOUS LAKE TAHOE (STOCK) - NIGHT] [INT. VARIOUS CASINO - NIGHT] (Various quick flashes of the inside of the casino.) [INT. CASINO - MAIN FLOOR - NIGHT] (Denise laughs as she stands in front of a gaming table.) (Ronnie is at the craps table and is thrilled.) (Ronnie rolls the dice. Denise is standing next to Ronnie.) DEALER: Yeah! Seven! Another winner! DEALER: 7 wins! Pay the line! (The waitress gets Ronnie's attention.) RONNIE: Oh, thank you. (Ronnie turns and takes the drink from the waitress and hands it to Denise.) RONNIE: (to Denise) Here you go, babe. (He gives the waitress a chip as a tip.) RONNIE: (to the waitress) Keep 'em coming. (Denise takes a sip from her drink. Ronnie turns to her.) RONNIE: You know, I feel kind of bad we haven't had a chance to blow up your ex yet. DENISE: Oh, that's okay. We can do it tomorrow. RONNIE: (smiles) All right. (He laughs. He turns to the craps table and picks up the dice.) (He gets a premonition.) (Quick flash to: [DICE] Two fours. End of flash. Resume to present.) (Ronnie immediately makes the bet.) RONNIE: Ten thousand dollar hard eight. (One of the people standing around the table is astounded by the bet.) (Ronnie tosses the chips over to the DEALER.) RONNIE: Yo, stick man, give me the horn. DEALER: You got it. (Ronnie laughs lustily. He makes the roll. The dealer calls it.) DEALER: Eight the hard way, a hard eight! And we got a shooter! (Denise and Ronnie are ecstatic.) PIPER: (o.s.) All right, that was your last roll, Diamond Jim. (They turn and find Piper and Phoebe standing right next to them.) DENISE: What are you doing here? PIPER: Come on, let's go. Fun is over. RONNIE: The fun's just getting started, unless you want my friend Denise here to put the whammy on you again. PHOEBE: She wouldn't dare. Not in front of all these people. DENISE: Want to try me? PIPER: Oh, sure. Now she's fearless. PHOEBE: Okay, I'll make you a deal. You try to get one more premonition, then afterwards, if you don't want to come with us, you can have our powers. PIPER: Uh, Phoebe ... PHOEBE: I know what I'm doing. What do you say? RONNIE: Will it win me a bunch more money? PHOEBE: Not a cent, but I guarantee you what you see will offer you more than this casino. (Ronnie considers it.) CUT TO: [INT. CASINO - BACK ROOM - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS] (The door to the back room opens. Phoebe pushes Ronnie into the back room. Denise and Piper follow.) PHOEBE: Okay, I need you to close your eyes and clear your head. PIPER: Wait, what are you going to do? PHOEBE: I'm gonna try to get him to see what I've been trying to get you to see. PIPER: How the hell you gonna do that with no powers? PHOEBE: I saw it, didn't I? Okay, give me your hand. I'm gonna walk you through this, okay? (Rolling his eyes, Ronnie puts his hand in Phoebe's. Immediately, a white glow of power appears at their connection.) PHOEBE: Close your eyes and picture an elementary school. (Ronnie closes his eyes.) Outside, lots of happy kids. Can you see it? (Ronnie concentrates.) (Quick flash to: [RONNIE'S VISION - DAY] Phoebe is standing outside in front of the school. The children run over to her.) YOUNG WYATT: Hi, Aunt Phoebe. (End of flash. Resume to Ronnie.) RONNIE: Aunt Phoebe? (Phoebe smiles.) PHOEBE: Yeah, that's it. Stay with it. There's Wyatt and Chris and the little girl ... (Quick flash to: [RONNIE'S VISION - DAY] Phoebe is kneeling in front of a little girl.) (VISION) PHOEBE: What did I tell you about the demons? They don't exist anymore, not since the Avatars. (End of flash. Resume to Ronnie.) (Ronnie gasps. Denise stand on the side watching.) DENISE: What's he seeing? PIPER: Believe me, I wish I knew. (Ronnie slowly opens his eyes. He's very quiet and contemplative. He looks at Phoebe.) RONNIE: Is that real? PHOEBE: It can be ... if we get our powers back. (Standing on the side, Piper watches Phoebe and Ronnie.) (Ronnie smiles and nods.) CUT TO: [EXT. SAN FRANCISCO GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE (STOCK) -- NIGHT] [EXT. GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE - TALLEST TOWER -- NIGHT] (Kheel, Sandra and the other Elders question Leo.) KHEEL: All right, Leo, for the last time, are you or are you not an Avatar? LEO: I'm just someone who wants peace. Isn't that what you want, too? SANDRA: Please, Leo, the truth. LEO: All right. Yes, I'm an Avatar. But they're not a threat. They seek what we seek. KHEEL: Oh, what? The destruction of everything we hold dear? LEO: No, a world without good and evil, without conflict. SANDRA: It's not possible. LEO: It is if we have the courage to change, to evolve. KHEEL: Evolution takes centuries, millennia even. It cannot happen overnight. It must be earned. LEO: I think we've earned it. SANDRA: We can't let you go through with this, Leo. LEO: I already have. KHEEL: So be it. (Kheel turns back and nods to the lead Elder. She nods back.) (She fires a blast of electricity at Leo. He takes the brunt of the shock which forces him back a little.) (Still, he remains standing, unaffected.) (All the Elders turn their firepower on Leo, blasting him with collective streams of electricity. Leo grunts, the force of the impact slams him backward into the tower steel.) (Still, they continue to fire the electricity at Leo.) (Leo cries out in pain.) (The Elders stop.) (Leo remains alive. Kheel and Sandra step forward, amazed.) KHEEL: But you ... you should be dead. LEO: I would have been if I were still an Elder. (Sandra swallows.) LEO: Face it. The fate of the world is no longer in your hands. (Sadly, Kheel shakes his head.) (All the Elders orb out.) (Exhausted, Leo sighs and rests against the tower steel.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - FOYER / MAIN HALL -- DAY] (The door opens. Piper, Dense, Phoebe and Ronnie enter the foyer. They head for the stairs.) PHOEBE: I'll get the spell. (The door closes behind them. Zankou steps out from the sitting room.) ZANKOU: I wouldn't bother with that if I were you. (Everyone stops and turns to look at Zankou.) PIPER: Leo! ZANKOU: I wouldn't bother with him, either. Something tells me he's not coming to your rescue this time. (Zankou powers up an energy ball and hurls it straight for the camera.) FADE OUT. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [INT. MANOR - SITTING ROOM / MAIN HALL / DINING ROOM -- NIGHT] (We continue exactly where we left off.) (The group standing by the stairs - Piper, Denise, Phoebe and Ronnie - quickly turn and hit the floor to avoid the oncoming energy ball.) ZANKOU: Aah! (Piper and Denise are flat on the stairs. Denise starts panicking.) DENISE: We're gonna die! PIPER: No, no, no. You're gonna be fine. Just remember what I told you. (Zankou powers up another energy ball and hurls it at the stairs. The banister railing explodes in a shower of wood pieces.) (Denise ducks her head under her hands and screams.) DENISE: Aah! (Piper quickly gets up and runs up the stairs. Denise makes a dash for the living room clear across the hall right in front of Zankou.) (Zankou advances toward them.) (He sees Denise, powers up another energy ball and hurls it at her. He barely misses her and hits the table instead.) (Phoebe and Ronnie are huddled behind the dining room wall listening to Denise and the explosions in the hallway.) RONNIE: Okay, he's bad. PHOEBE: Yes. Now, if you concentrate, you should be able to sense the next energy ball -- (Ronnie pulls Phoebe down.) RONNIE: Get Down! (The energy ball hits the wall just where Phoebe was.) PHOEBE: That was very good. RONNIE: Thank you. (Zankou advances forward, another energy ball powered up in the palm of his hand. He walks up level to the stairs. Piper is huddled just at the turn in the stairs. She sees him and gasps.) (Zankou hears her. He turns and sees Piper.) (Just as he's ready to throw the energy ball, he gets hit in the back with a powerful blast that throws him up face-forward against the wall. He falls to the floor.) (Piper glances around the stair banister and sees Denise with her hands up.) PIPER: Nice job. DENISE: Did I kill him? (Piper stands up and glances down at Zankou on the ground.) PIPER: Um, not quite, but we'll take what we can get. (calls out) Leo! (Zankou starts to regain consciousness.) ZANKOU: Ohh ... (Denise's eyes widen as Zankou slowly gets up.) ZANKOU: Leo's still alive. Looks like the Avatars are more powerful than I thought. (Zankou looks at Piper.) Which means, we're all in trouble. (Zankou flames out.) (Leo orbs in. He looks a mess. Piper scrambles down the stairs toward him.) LEO: You guys all right? (Phoebe and Ronnie step out from the dining room.) PHOEBE: Yeah, thanks to these two. (Piper gets a good look at Leo.) PIPER: You, on the other hand ... LEO: I'll be fine. PIPER: Uh, what happened to you? I thought you went to see the Elders. LEO: (ominously) I did. We need to talk. CUT TO: [EXT. AIRPORT - NIGHT - PAST (1981)] (A plane flies overhead.) [INT. AIRPORT WAREHOUSE - NIGHT -- PAST (1981)] (Jack Brody continues to work at the table standing next to a customs officer. Paige and Kyle hide behind the boxes watching them.) (Ruth Brody is at another table examining a piece with a customs officer. The wall clock behind them reads 7:52p.) (Kyle notes the time: 7:52p. He sighs.) KYLE: It's time. (The customs officer standing at the table with Jack, picks up the case with the potions vials in it. He takes a couple of steps back to the box when he is suddenly hit by a fireball. He cries out and explodes.) (Kyle watches as everything happens.) [SLOW MOTION] (The case with the vials in it falls to the ground. The vials smash and black smoke rises up and out like living tendrils. They move quickly around, then dissipate just as the case hits the floor.) (The black smoke disappears.) (Jack turns around to look and sees a demon standing just outside the Receiving doorway. Two more demons appear next to the first one. Kyle recognizes them for what they are.) KYLE: Demons. (Meanwhile, Ruth and the Customs Officer are moving.) (Jack watches as the Demon Leader motions to the other two demons. They vanish in a puff of smoke.) (Jack quickly turns around to check on Ruth.) (One demon appears in front of Ruth and slides his double-pointed razor-sharp talons into her abdomen.) JACK BRODY: Ruth! (The Customs Officer behind Ruth pulls out his gun and aims at something off screen. Jack heads for Ruth.) (Kyle watches the horror unfold in front of him.) JACK BRODY: No! (Jack barely takes a step when the second demon appears next to him and grabs his arm stopping him. Jack flinches and we see the points of the double-pointed razor-sharp talons appear clear through his chest as the demon stabs him from behind.) (Kyle watches helplessly.) (The final Customs Officer fires at the Demon Leader standing in the doorway. The bullets ricochet off the Demon Leader. One bullet hits the wall clock, stopping it.) (The Demon Leader powers up a fireball and hurls it a the Customs Officer. The fireball hits the customs officer who yells out in pain as he vanishes in a puff of fire and flames.) (The Demon pulls out the razor-sharp weapon from Jack as he falls to the floor.) (Kyle breathes heavily from the death in front of him. His father's body falls heavily to the ground.) (The Demon Leader steps forward. The other two demons appear just behind him. The Demon Leader looks at all the broken clay vials on the floor in front of Jack's dead body.) DEMON LEADER: We needed those potions. DEMON 1: I told you we should have waited. DEMON 2: How will we protect ourselves? DEMON LEADER: (sighs) We won't. (The Demons vanish.) (Paige and Kyle step out from behind the boxes. They look down at Kyle's parents, both dead now.) PAIGE: I'm so sorry. I had no idea. (Paige looks at Kyle. Kyle can't take his eyes off his parents.) KYLE BRODY: Neither did I. I never really saw what happened. I thought I did, but I just assumed it was the Avatars because of the vials. PAIGE: At least now we know it wasn't them. KYLE BRODY: (shakes his head) It doesn't help. YOUNG KYLE BRODY: (o.s.) Mom? Dad? (Paige and Kyle look up and see Young Kyle standing in the doorway with a soda in his hand. Young Kyle sees his father on the ground. He drops the soda cup and runs to his dad.) YOUNG KYLE BRODY: Daddy! (Young Kyle kneels down next to his dad's body and cries.) YOUNG KYLE BRODY: (whispers) Daddy? Daddy, don't, please. (Young Kyle sees the vial in his dad's hands and takes it. He sits back and looks at it.) (Kyle walks over to Young Kyle. He kneels down next to Young Kyle. Both Kyles are looking at their dad.) KYLE BRODY: Kyle, look at me. (Young Kyle doesn't look at him. Kyle turns him to look at him.) KYLE BRODY: Kyle? You're gonna be okay. We're gonna get through this, all right? Promise. (He hugs Young Kyle.) (Paige watches them.) PAIGE: We have to go. (Over Young Kyle's shoulder, Kyle sees a second unbroken vial near the body on the ground by the crate.) (Camera lingers on Kyle as he stares at the vial.) FADE TO: [EXT. VARIOUS SAN FRANCISCO CITY LIGHTS (STOCK) - NIGHT -- PRESENT] [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR (STOCK) - NIGHT -- PRESENT] [INT. MANOR - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT -- PRESENT] (There's a sound of a power blast. The lamp on the table shatters upon impact.) PHOEBE: Hey! Do you mind? (Piper is standing a shooting distance away from the lamp. Phoebe is sweeping up the broken pieces of wood from the floor.) PIPER: Sorry, just checking. PHOEBE: Oh, it's okay. I never liked that lamp really anyway. PIPER: I don't know how much good having our powers back is gonna do anyway. They didn't seem to faze Zankou. (Phoebe stops sweeping and rolls her eyes.) PHOEBE: Zankou. How do they come up with these names? PIPER: After all these years, you're gonna ask now? (Phoebe chuckles.) Well, at least Denise and Ronnie get to go back to their normal lives. PHOEBE: Did Leo use the memory dust on them? PIPER: Yeah, although it's kind of a shame, considering everything they went through. I mean, Ronnie got to see a better future. PHOEBE: Yeah. It's too bad you didn't get to see the future that Ronnie saw. (Phoebe picks up the dustpan and kneels down to sweep up the small pieces off the floor.) PIPER: I don't think I need to. I mean, I saw how just one glimpse changed that man forever. And the fact that the Avatars aren't killers helps a little bit. That's enough for me. PHOEBE: Really? PIPER: Yeah. Hell, it's worth a shot. It's got to be better than cleaning up after demons all the time. PAIGE: (o.s.) I agree. (Paige walks down the stairs toward them.) PAIGE: I've been thinking about it, and, um, I'm ready to try, too, because I'm tired of all of ... (she shakes the damaged banister and motions to the mess around her) ... this. PHOEBE: How's Kyle doing? PAIGE: He's pretty devastated, you know? But I think eventually he'll be okay. I mean, you have to be. It's Utopia, right? CUT TO: [INT. BRODY'S APARTMENT -- NIGHT] (The metal case is on the table. Kyle opens it. In the center is the empty space where the Avatar Vanquishing Potions vial used to be.) (Kyle digs into his jacket pocket and takes out the second clay vial. He looks at it for a long moment.) (He puts the vial in the empty space in the case.) (He closes the case and latches it shut.)
